Dear Parent(s) or Legal Guardian(s):

Gateway Christian Academy has been notified of a case of COVID-19 in an individual in the school. Your child has been identified as a close contact of the case.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), for COVID-19, close contact is anyone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes,

within 2 days before the person has any symptoms or tests positive for COVID-19. The CDC recommends that close contacts:

  • Stay home for 14 days after the last contact with a person who has COVID-19
  • Stay away from others at home as much as possible, especially people who are at higher risk

for getting very sick from COVID-19

  • Watch for symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or

difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headaches, new loss of taste or smell, sore

throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting and diarrhea

  • Contact a healthcare provider immediately if your child develops any of these symptoms
  • Look for emergency warning signs for COVID-19. If your child is showing any of these or

other emergency signs, call 911 immediately:

  • o Trouble breathing
  • o Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
  • o New confusion
  • o Inability to wake or stay awake
  • o Bluish lips or face

The CDC recommends that people who are close contacts of COVID-19 cases be tested for COVID-19.

Please take your child to one of the testing sites on the attached flyer immediately to be tested for COVID-19 at no cost.

The Florida Department of Health in Broward County (DOH-Broward) will call you to collect more information. Additionally,

if your child develops symptoms during the 14 days, please contact DOH-Broward to arrange for your child to be tested again.

If your child has a negative PCR test for COVID-19 and does not develop any symptoms, your child may return to school after 14 days.

If your child tests positive for COVID-19 at any time during the 14 days, please notify the school immediately.

If your child tests positive for COVID-19 at any time during the 14 days and has symptoms, he/she may return after the following criteria are met:

  • At least 10 days have passed since symptoms began AND
  • At least 24 hours have passed with no fever without the use of fever-reducing medications AND
  • Other symptoms have improved AND

  • At least 24 hours have passed with no fever without the use of fever-reducing medications AND
  • Other symptoms have improved AND
